Ingredients:
1 pound strawberries, hulled and chopped
1 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons lemon juice
Instructions
1. Prepare the Strawberries: Wash the strawberries, hull them, and chop them into small pieces.
2. Cook the Strawberries: In a medium saucepan, combine the chopped strawberries and lemon juice. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the strawberries start to break down and release their juices (about 5-10 minutes).
3. Add Sugar: Stir in the granulated sugar and continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the mixture comes to a boil.
4. Simmer: Reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring often, until the mixture thickens and reaches your desired consistency. If you want a smoother jam, you can mash the strawberries with a fork or a potato masher.
5. Test the Jam: To check if the jam is ready, place a spoonful on a plate and let it cool for a minute. Run your finger through the jam; if it holds its shape and doesn’t run, it’s done. If not, continue cooking for a few more minutes.
7. Store: Once cooled, store the jam in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks or jar the jam in a water bath canner for longer shelf life.
OPTIONAL: Jar the Jam: Pour the hot jam into sterilized jars while it’s still hot. Seal the jars and let them cool at room temperature.
Enjoy your delicious homemade strawberry jam!
